Welcome to Chapeltown Community Nursery

Our Not-For-Profit Community Nursery

Families have trusted us since we began as a playgroup in 1973 and whilst our organisation is led by parents our day to day activities are led by our children.

About

How We Work

Chapeltown Community Nursery is a not-for-profit nursery, owned by the community and led by a voluntary management committee. We evolved into a nursery to meet the needs of local families and began working from our purpose built venue on Reginald Street in 1992. As well as running a nursery we open up our building for community use when we don’t need it and invest any profits and additional fundraising into resources and activities for our community.

Our Nursery Routine

Full STEAM ahead

Science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics are built into our everyday activities. From construction to discussing how things work, from library trips to experimental art activities and confidence with numbers we are constantly learning! In 2021 and 2022 we are running new maths, music and movement programmes to support our children's expession and development.

Nature versus Nurture

Our outdoor area is accessible on demand all year round and in all weathers. We encourage gardening as well as exploration with a community fruit garden developing next to our car park. We also have an indoor atrium so we never miss opportunities to enjoy nature.

Caring team

We pride ourselves on creating an environment that is both professional and caring with close relationships between staff, families and children.

Celebrating our diversity

Having nursery resources that reflect our children's backgrounds and communities is not a tick box exercise! It's part of the culture of the nursery and gives us so many more reasons to have parties and festivals. Our curious children love learning more about the world around them, from our in house catering to our annual mini West Indian Carnival.

Covid-19 Update

We are serious about the health of our families, staff and community. We continue to adapt the activities we offer and our day-to-day routines to ensure that we adhere to government guidelines and maintain the highest standards of hygiene whilst creating a happy and playful environment.

Picking the right Nursery School for your child is an important decision, and we want to support you every step of the way. Read testimonials from other parents below and extracts from our Ofsted Reports, and get in touch with questions.

Community led, not for profit, open plan inside and lovely space outside, we have sent two of our kids here and have been really happy with the care and love they have received - they were always happy about going! Highly recommended
