Welcome to Chapeltown Community Nursery
Our Not-For-Profit Community Nursery
Our goal at Chapeltown Community Nursery is to create a safe environment for our children to thrive. Families have trusted us since we were established in 1973 and whilst our organisation is led by parents our day to day activities are led by our children. We have a child-led inspired ethos and are committed to serving our locality in Leeds 7 with resources tailored to our communities.
About
How We Work
Chapeltown Community Nursery is a not for profit nursery, owned by the community and led by a voluntary management committee.
Established in 1973 as a playgroup, we evolved into a nursery to meet the needs of local families and began working from our purpose built venue on Reginald Street in 1992.
As well as running a nursery we aim to open up our building for community use when we don’t need it and to invest nursery income and additional fundraising into resources for the community.
Our Programs
Harnessing Creativity
Full STEAM ahead!
Science, technology, engineering, art and maths are built into our everyday activities. From construction to discussing how things work, from library trips to experimental art activities and confidence with numbers we are constantly learning!
Nature versus Nurture!
Our outdoor area is accessible on demand all year round and in all weathers. We encourage gardening as well as exploration with a community fruit garden developing next to our car park. We also have an indoor atrium so we never miss opportunities to enjoy nature.
Caring team
We pride ourselves on creating an environment that is both professional and caring with close relationships between staff, families and children.
We celebrate our diversity
Having nursery resources that reflect our children's backgrounds and communities is not a tick box exercise! It's part of the culture of the nursery and gives us so many more reasons to have parties and festivals. Our curious children love learning more about the world around them, from our in house catering to our annual mini West Indian Carnival.
Covid-19 Update
Whilst we have been open throughout 2020, we are serious about the health of our families, staff and community. We have changed the activities we offer and our day to day routines to ensure that we adhere to government guidelines and maintain the highest standards of hygiene whilst creating a happy and playful environment for our children.
