Developing the Musicians and Dancers of Tomorrow

Updated: Oct 10, 2021

We are excited to be inviting our families and friends to an open event on 22nd September celebrating our new outdoors area with music, movement and free play facilitated by local dance artist, Rachel Dean. You may know her from her work with Harehills Music and Movement Group - if you don't, they are running sessions for under fives on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can find details of the event here - please talk to our team or book a ticket online here.

Following this event we will be partnering with the National Lottery's Awards For All to devise a "Let's Move" music and movement programme for our children and local families with Rachel alongside local artists and musicians.

We are also collaborating with musicians James Banner (Northern Composers’ Collective) and Megan Jowett (Make The Paint Dance) on Autumn Walk Workshops. These will involve lots of playing, singing and stories exploring the connections between, sound, music and nature using found items and home made instruments.

Our workshops will be audio recorded and the sounds made

will be edited and turned into a full piece that everyone will be able to experience in early 2022! To get a sense of what this might sound like check out their Birdsong Mashup that nursery parents and children took part in last year.

We love being located close to a range of inspiring organisations such as RJC Dance, who have just shared the Sport and Wellbeing Alliance's new report describing how movement and dance can have significant benefits for individual and community wellbeing.

Through these activities we hope to develop our skills in how we keep children active in the nursery, developing communication skills and see our children thrive as they discover new skills and talents. We look forward to sharing more about these activities with you in the coming weeks and months!
